Norman E. Leaver, Jr., retired diocesan employee

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 10 in St. Raphael Church, Hamilton, for Norman E. Leaver, Jr., who died April 4 in his home in Hamilton Township.

Mr. Leaver was retired from the Diocese of Trenton after a lengthy career as a personnel director and the husband of Carolyn Leaver, who is currently on staff as an administrative assistant in the diocesan Office of Clergy Personnel and Consecrated Life.

A lifelong Hamilton Township resident, Mr. Leaver served in the U.S. Coast Guard as a radioman second class. Before he began employment with the diocese, he had worked for Lucent Technologies from which he had also retired.

Mr. Leaver was active in several community organizations including the Hamilton Elks and served on the board of directors of the Sister Georgine Learning Center, a diocesan sponsored agency that provides education for children with special needs. He was also an original player in the Babe Ruth League.

Mr. Leaver was predeceased by his parents Margaret and Norman E. Leaver, Sr. In addition to his wife of 50 years, Mr. Leaver is survived by his son, Norman E. III (Christina) of Hamilton; a daughter, Diana L. (Dr. Alexander) McGowan of Robbinsville; five grandchildren; a brother-in-law, and many other family members.
