The Regional Rosary-Altar Society Network, launched in October 2004, will celebrate its 10th anniversary with a regional Mass in the Church of the Blessed Sacrament-Our Lady of the Divine Shepherd, Trenton, Oct. 11. The celebration will include recitation of the Rosary at 9 a.m., followed by Mass at 9:30 and brunch.
Meredith Milligan, president of the Rosary-Altar Society, host parish, said that the celebration marks an important milestone for the 14 parishes in the regional network.
“To many of us, the 10th anniversary means togetherness,” she said. “The parishes in this network have been together for 10 years supporting the cause to give honor to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Our spirituality has increased within this 10-year period.”
The annual Mass, which has been hosted in a different area parish each year, began in the same worship space it will return to for the momentous occasion.
The regional network has meetings four times a year, and each member parish features a variety of activities geared toward ministry and community service. Those activities include providing clothing to mothers in need; hosting retreats to promote individual and group devotion and spirituality; providing needed items to shelters; raising funds for church projects; providing scholarships to eighth graders entering Catholic high schools; hosting spirituality tea parties; creating prayer shawls to donate to hospitals and nursing homes; presenting hand-written Christmas cards to the residents of Morris Hall, Lawrenceville, and the sewing of a Rosary quilt to give to the Missions and military personnel, among several other projects.
“We would like people to know that we are an organized group who wishes to honor our Blessed Virgin Mary,” said Milligan. “We are about missionary work and devote much of our time helping others within the Church and the community.”
Milligan said that the past decade has brought about some developments in the network’s structure and activities.
“Strength has grown between the parishes, some of the parishes have received new members with new ideas and the parishes have continued to serve others giving their time and efforts to those in need,” she explained.
