July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

For those who could use some support in preparing their income tax return, the Seton Hall Law School Center for Social Justice, Newark, is ready to help.

This year, the Center is again participating in the Internal Revenue Service Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program. IRS-certified law student volunteers from both Seton Hall and Rutgers University will be on hand to help prepare income tax returns for qualified taxpayers – with annual W-2 income of up to $70,000.

Individuals and couples are welcomed to visit the Seton Hall Law School, at 833 McCarter Highway, Newark, during the following dates and times for assistance:

  • March 11, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • March 12, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • March 18, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • March 19, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • April 1, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • April 2, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • April 8, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.
  • April 9, 11 a.m. – 3 p.m.
  • April 15, 2 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Spanish translators are available as well. Visitors should bring photo ID, a social security card of ITIN letter, all tax forms received, other income information if applicable, information for all deductions and credits, a copy of last year’s tax return if available, and a voided check for direct deposit. Both spouses should come together, if filing jointly.

Anyone with questions can contact Professor Phil Ross, Director of the VITA program, or Melinda Lampley-Merritt, program coordinator, at 973-642-8700.
