Multicultural Pentecost Rally planned for Ocean Grove

A Pentecost Rally and Retreat Day with the theme “All Together in One Place” will be held June 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in The Great Auditorium, Ocean Grove. This rally, co-sponsored by the Anglo, Hispanic, Filipino and Haitian Catholic Charismatic Renewal communities of the Diocese and billed as a multicultural day of faith, combines a number of popular cultural rallies which have attracted hundreds of faithful in the past, explained Father Jeff Kegley, liaison to the CCR.

“It brings all the cultural communities into one place, like it says in Acts 2:1,” said Father Kegley, who also serves as pastor of St. Mary Parish, Middletown.  He eagerly anticipates the rally’s first venture inside Ocean Grove’s famed Great Auditorium with its soaring wooden ceilings, stadium seating and famed pipe organ. “God really opened up the doors to us,” Father Kegley said. “All the communities are excited.”

The day-long rally begins at sunrise with an optional prayer service on the beach. Registration for the indoor portion is from 8 to 8:55 a.m. Keynote speaker will be Father Bill Halbring, nationally renowned for his energetic yet spiritual charismatic conference presentations.

Co-emcees Ericka Rodriguez and Bob Bursley will introduce the day’s guest speakers. In addition to Father Kegley, Deacon Benito de Jesus Torres, liaison to the Catholic Charismatic Renewal for the Hispanic community, will offer his reflections. Mass will be celebrated by Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M.

“This is an entire family retreat,” explained Father Kegley, “a day to refresh. We will be all together like the first Christian communities over 2000 years ago.”

The cost for the rally is $10 for adults 13 and older and $5 for children ages three to 12 (children under three must remain with their parents/guardians). To register, see www.dotccr.org. For more information, call 609-403-7189 (English) or 609-403-7138 (Espanol).
