Mother Teresa students honored for volunteerism
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
The kindergarten and fifth grade students at Mother Teresa Regional School, Atlantic Highlands, were recently presented with the Jefferson Service Award. The two classes were honored for their volunteering with King James Nursing Home. Students in the fifth grade have been writing to residents of King James Nursing Home in a pen pal program. Both classes visited the nursing home in September to introduce the students to the residents and how their service would impact the students.
As kindergarten students Reagan Scalera and Allison Urbanski received the award with Michelle Taylor, fifth grade teacher, the students noted their involvement. Allison commented “we helped the people to find friends.” Reagan added, “We made angels for them and wrote questions on the angels.”
The year-long service project will be continued next year as the students move into sixth grade and first grade.
