Monsignor Donovan grad sworn into U.S. Coast Guard

Alexander Paggi, a 2014 graduate of Monsignor Donovan High School, Toms River, was scheduled to be sworn into the United States Coast Guard Academy, New London, Conn., June 30.
The Toms River resident was awarded a full tuition scholarship and monthly stipend for a five-year service commitment to the Coast Guard upon graduation. Admission to the academy is highly competitive; less than 300 appointments are offered annually from a pool of over 2,500 applicants. All graduates of the USCG Academy receive a bachelor of science degree and are guaranteed a position of leadership as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard.
While at Monsignor Donovan, Paggi was a three-year starting player for the boys soccer team, and an accomplished sailor on the school’s sailing team. He finished third at the Mid-Atlantic Scholastic Sailing Association’s Cressy Singlehanded District Championship and 15th at Nationals. He is the son of Helga and John Paggi of Toms River.
