The Monitor, the Catholic newspaper of the Diocese of Trenton, has been named one of five finalists in the “Best Catholic Newspaper” category of the 2012 About.com Catholicism Readers’ Choice Awards contest. The Monitor is the first diocesan publication to be honored with a nomination in the history of the Catholicism GuideSite.
The annual About.com Readers’ Choice Awards showcase the best products, people, organizations, and services in multiple categories, from technology to hobbies to parenting to religion. The About.com Catholicism GuideSite first participated in the Readers' Choice Awards in 2011, garnering thousands of nominations and tens of thousands of votes.
Nominations in the contest are made by readers of About.com, a website of The New York Times Company. Each About.com Guide chooses up to five finalists in each category from among the nominees. Readers and visitors to the About.com site vote to choose one of the finalists as the best in the category for that year.
The Catholicism Readers’ Choice Awards are part of the broader About.com Readers’ Choice Awards program. In addition to Best Catholic Newspaper, the ten subcategories under Catholicism include best Catholic book, best Catholic blog, best Catholic website and best Catholic magazine.
About.com covers more than 88,000 topics and adds more than 1,600 pieces of new content each week. The site offers its 75 million monthly unique visitors answers to their questions on a variety of topics ranging from technology to hobbies, parenting and religion.
Voting in the Readers’ Choice Awards opened Feb. 22; supporters can vote once per day, every day, between now and March 21 at 11:59 p.m. Voters will be required either to provide a valid email address or to login using a Facebook or About.com account.
