Mercy Sister Mary Anina Schott dies at 97

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Feb. 25 in McAuley Hall Health Care Center, Watchung, for Mercy Sister Mary Anina Schott, who died Feb. 21. She was 97.

Sister Mary Anina was born and raised in Atlantic City. She entered the Sisters of Mercy in 1930. She held a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, and a master’s degree in English from Seton Hall University, South Orange.

During her 50-year teaching career, she taught in the Dioceses of Metuchen, Camden and Trenton. In the Trenton Diocese, she taught in St. James School, Red Bank, and Red Bank Catholic High School. She also served as the librarian in St. Mary Academy, Lakewood, and St. Dominic School, Brick.

In retirement, she lived in St. James Convent, Red Bank, for almost 30 years.

Sister Mary Anina is survived by a brother; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, former students and friends.

Burial was in Holy Redeemer Cemetery, South Plainfield.
