Mercer County CYO buys bus for children's programs

The Catholic Youth Organization of Mercer County recently purchased a 29-passenger bus for its children’s day-to-day activities – both on and off-site – with the aid of numerous individuals and group donations.
“This acquisition is a shining example of what’s possible with the help of generous donors,” said Tom Mladenetz, executive director of the CYO. “We are most grateful for the support.”
What started out in 1961 as a community organization providing recreational activities for Catholic youth, has grown into an inclusive, full-service childcare and youth development program respectful to all cultures and faiths. The CYO offers affordable, quality educational and recreational services such as pre-school programs, summer day camps for children, and teen and youth athletic leagues.
The new bus will be beneficial to the organization’s transportation service, providing rides to 18 Trenton schools with more than 83 percent of the 180 children attending CYO afterschool programs throughout the city.
“Buses are critical to the service CYO provides transporting children to our sites for after-school and summer camp daily, as well as for field trips and off-site programming,” Mladenetz said.
The CYO currently serves more than 1,300 children daily at nine sites in Trenton, Hamilton and Ewing.
