Men's Rally to be held May 13 in Allentown parish

A rally scheduled for May 13 in St. John the Baptist Parish, Allentown, aims to show the men of the Diocese of Trenton faith and masculinity can go together like a surfer and his board, or a motorcycle rider and his favorite leathers.

The “Call to the Wall” Men’s Rally will feature local and nationally known speakers who will share their personal testimony and challenge attendees to “go deeper” with God: Coach John McKenna of Notre Dame High School, Lawrenceville; radio and television host Bear Woznick, and Jason Jones, the Hawaii-based pro-life speaker.

Coach McKenna served as defensive coordinator at Notre Dame for 16 years, and after his retirement in 2015 continues to serve the high school as its sports strength coach. McKenna is moderator for the school’s Catholic Athletes for Christ chapter, and has been honored by the NFL for his work in amateur athletics. He was inducted into the N.J. Coaches Hall of Fame and Sports Faith International Hall of Fame.

Bear Woznick is a radio and television host for the Eternal Word Television Network. He was trained to be a ninja black belt, is a world champion tandem surfer, motorcyclist and author of “Deep in the Wave.” Also with McKenna, he was honored by induction into the Sports Faith International Hall of Fame in 2015. Woznick visited the Catholic Athletes for Christ chapter in Notre Dame in February 2016, inspiring the youth to be strong in their faith.

“God wants you to let go of all the things that you are clinging to and all of your attachments” and look up to him for help, Woznick maintains.

Jason Jones is a human rights activist, martial arts champion, pro-life speaker and author of “Race to Save Our Century.” He was an executive producer on the 2006 film “Bella” and serves as president of “Movie to Movement.com” and “IAmWholeLife.com.” Jones and his wife live in Hawaii with their seven children.

“I know Bear, and am looking forward to his talk. I am also excited to hear Jason Jones,” McKenna said. “He’s amazing. He has a great story, and will keep people on the edge of their seats.”

McKenna, who took part in a similar event with Woznick in Texas, said the schedule for the May 13 rally will be “freewheeling, very relaxed, with different speakers, witness talks, even perhaps audience members being inspired to speak.” The rally is scheduled just before the season two premiere of “Long Ride Home,” the EWTN-produced reality series with Woznick where motorcycle “riders seeking deeper conversion on a trek down the eastern U.S. mountains,” according to its website.

Asked for reason men should attend the upcoming rally, McKenna spoke like a true strength coach.

“Over the years, the men of the Catholic Church have gotten soft,” he asserted. “They have dropped the ball, and men need to rally together. We need more men to be warriors, to lead the way with faith. This rally will get them all fired up.”

The Men’s Rally will be held from 8:30 a.m. to noon. After 5:15 p.m. Mass, Father Brian Woodrow, pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish, will have a Blessing of the Motorcycles.

Tickets for the May 13 rally are $20 at the door, $10 for those younger than 21. For more information, visit StJohnRomanCatholic.org or call 609-259-3391. St. John the Baptist is located at 1282 Yardville-Allentown Road, Allentown.
