Mary's Child Pro-Life Ministry dinner slated for Oct. 27
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
The Mary’s Child Pro-Life Ministry, which represents the Monmouth County parishes of St. Catharine-St. Margaret, Spring Lake; St. Denis, Manasquan; St. Mark, Sea Girt; St. Rose, Belmar; St. Teresa of Calcutta, Avon-by-the-Sea, and Holy Innocents, Neptune, will honor its 2019 Champions for Life at a dinner to be held Oct. 27 in Doolan’s Shore Club, Spring Lake Heights.
This year’s honorees will be Msgr. Sean P. Flynn, pastor of St. Mark Parish, as Champion for Life, and St. Mark parishioner Bernard Ricciardi will be presented with the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award. Mary Reilly, youth minister for St. Mark Parish and member of the Mary’s Child Pro-Life Ministry, explained the reasons for selecting the two award recipients.
“We were deluged with nominations for Msgr. Sean Flynn to be our 2019 Champion for Life – not just from members of St. Mark’s Parish but also from parishes where he previously served,” Reilly said, calling the priest “a very strong advocate for the protection of human life from conception to natural death. He includes it in the Prayers of the Faithful at every Mass. He often preaches about the sanctity of all life in his homilies.”
She added that many nominators cited his outstanding compassion and support for those who have had abortions, the healing and forgiveness he offers through the sacrament of Reconciliation and his years of counseling through Rachel’s Vineyard. Reilly continued, “So many letters came in mentioning the endless hours he spends visiting the sick and the dying in hospitals and nursing homes… He is a strong supporter of the Holy Innocents Society and has offered a huge Spanish Ministry a loving home at St. Mark’s. He is greatly loved by everyone.”
Ricciardi was chosen as the organization’s Lifetime Achievement Award winner “primarily for his years of hard work as a member of the Knights of Columbus. Bernie personally raised thousands of dollars to fund the sonogram initiative,” Reilly revealed. “Women are offered free sonograms so that they can see their unborn child and hopefully choose life. Bernie has also done a lot for the physically and mentally challenged.”
