The Golden Rule is taking center stage in Ocean County with the second annual “Love Thy Neighbor” campaign.
Sponsored by the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office, the campaign is taking place in houses of worship across Ocean County. Religious leaders, including Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., are urging their congregations to stand up against racism, hatred and anti-Semitism, and to pray and work for peace in their own neighborhoods and on social media.
In a letter to his brother priests intended for their June 1-2 parish bulletins, Bishop O’Connell wrote, “This year’s theme – There is No Room for Hate in Ocean County – certainly flows from the life and Gospel message of Our Lord Jesus Christ.”
He continued, “In St. John’s Gospel this Sunday, Our Lord prays for unity among believers, a unity that is rooted in love. May love move us all to see beyond the things that divide us to the Lord himself, who is the source of all unity and peace!”
