Lourdes presents Healing Spirit Awards to two physicians

Lourdes Health Foundation has chosen Dr. Stuart Mest and Dr. Ronald Cohen as the recipients of the 2014 Healing Spirit Award, which honors a Lourdes physician for his or her compassion, dedication to patients and years of service.
The awards were presented to Dr. Mest and Dr. Cohen at the Lourdes Health Foundation’s annual fundraising gala and silent auction held April 12.
A resident of Mount Laurel, Dr. Mest is the medical director of respiratory care and chairman of the Department of Medicine in Lourdes Medical Center of Burlington County, Willingboro. He also served as president of the medical staff and as a member of numerous committees.
Dr. Mest earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania where he was named a Benjamin Franklin Scholar, a distinctive honor given to students who are committed to the transformative power of ideas. He earned a medical degree from Pennsylvania State University – Hershey Medical Center, graduating with honors. He performed an internship and residency in medicine at Pennsylvania Hospital and a fellowship in pulmonary disease at Temple University Hospital.
A physician for 30 years, Dr. Mest said he’s grateful for his profession.
Dr. Cohen is a cardiologist with The Heart House/Cardiovascular Associates of the Delaware Valley. As an interventional cardiologist, Dr. Cohen advanced the carotid stenting program at Our Lady of Lourdes Medical Center, Camden. He has been actively involved in the management of both coronary and peripheral vascular disease and was an early participant in the development of an endovascular approach to repair aneurismal disease in the aorta.
During his tenure at Lourdes, Dr. Cohen has been involved in teaching resident physicians and medical students.
Dr. Cohen earned a bachelor’s degree from Washington and Jefferson College and his medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He performed an internship at Metropolitan Hospital in Philadelphia and his medical residence in John F. Kennedy Hospital in South Jersey. He completed his fellowship in Deborah Heart and Lung Center, Browns Mills.
