'Living the Mass' to serve as focus of catechetical formation day
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
Addressing questions such as “Why do Catholics do what they do?” when it comes to the celebration of the Mass will be the focus of the 2019 Formation Day for All in Catechesis scheduled for Feb. 23 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Co-Cathedral, 61 Georgia Road, Freehold.
Registration with light breakfast will begin at 8:30.
Hosted by the diocesan Department of Catechesis, the day, which has as its theme, “How One Hour a Week Can Change Your Life,” will feature internationally known speaker and author Joe Paprocki, who serves as national consultant for faith formation for Loyola Press.
Drawing from the book, Living the Mass, which he co-authored with Father Dominic Grassi, Paprocki will focus his talk on Mass attendance and reasons why people lack an understanding about the Mass.
Paprocki, who holds a doctor of ministry degree, has more than 35 years of experience in ministry and has presented keynotes, presentations and workshops in more than 100 dioceses in North America. He is a frequent presenter at national conferences including the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, the Mid-Atlantic Congress, and the National Conference for Catechetical Leadership. He is the author of numerous books, including the best seller “The Catechist’s Toolbox,” “A Church on the Move,” “Under the Influence of Jesus,” and “Called to Be Catholic” – a bilingual, foundational supplemental program that helps young people know their faith and grow in their relationship with God. He is also the series editor for the “Effective Catechetical Leader” and blogs about his experiences in faith formation at catechistsjourney.com.
In addition to Paprocki’s keynote address, the day will also include Mass celebrated at 11 a.m. with Franciscan Father Gabriel Zeis, diocesan vicar for Catholic Education. Cost is $15 per person and includes breakfast and lunch. Make checks payable to Diocese of Trenton and send to 701 Lawrenceville Road, Lawrenceville, N.J. 08648 or register online at dioceseoftrenton.org/2019-formation-day. Participants are asked to respond no later than Feb. 15.
