Institution to ministry of lector marks milestone in priestly formation for seminarian Hector Ramirez
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
Hector Ramirez, a seminarian for the Diocese of Trenton, is conferred the ministry of lector by Bishop Paul S. Loverde of the Diocese of Arlington, Va., in St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Wynnewood, Pa., April 25. The institution as lector is one of the ministries seminarians receive as they proceed toward diaconal and priestly ordination. As the rite indicates, a lector is charged with proclaiming the Word of God in the liturgical assembly, instructing children and adults in the faith, and preparing them to receive the sacraments worthily. As part of the rite, Bishop Loverde placed the Lectionary, from which the readings used in the celebration of Mass are taken, in the hands of each candidate and said, “Take this book of holy Scripture and be faithful in handing on the Word of God, so that it may grow strong in the hearts of his people.” Also in this picture is Trenton Diocesan seminarian Richard Osbourne who is holding the book for Bishop Loverde.
