Inspiring women of the Bible focus of program
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
‘Women of Influence!’ a musical and dramatic exploration into seven compelling women of the Bible by composer, actress and writer Kathy Ulrich, will be the cornerstone of a May 19 gathering in St. Anthony of Padua Parish, Red Bank.
The program, sponsored by the parish’s St. Anne Ministry, will begin at 10:30 a.m. and run until 12:30 p.m. A freewill offering to help promote future programs will be taken.
Ulrich described the program created as a look at women of the Bible whose stories have spoken to faithful down through the ages. Included among them are queens, warriors, leaders and home makers who, as Ulrich said in a recent telephone interview, “had great influence and power,” during their own times.
“Some of them used it for evil and others used it for great good,” Ulrich said. “Their stories continue to speak to us.”
The life of each woman and her impact is sketched out in a vignette composed of a teaching, a skit and a song, said Ulrich, a theatrical professional who hails from West Trenton and has appeared on stage in the Boston Company of ‘Godspell,’ The Theater of Light, and performed the role of poetess Emily Dickinson on Boston Public Television.
“The women in the Bible serve as inspirations and role models for us as we strive to worship and serve the God of creation,” said Ulrich, who added that the presentation weaves drama and song together about them into a “study of the different dimensions of our own relationship with God.”
Ulrich performs throughout the tri-state area with this program and others including a musical Passion Play she created and a children’s show entitled ‘Faithwalk.’ She said she most enjoys performing her work in churches as she will in Red Bank.
“I really think of these performances as devotional presentations and I think it’s important to bring them into churches. It gives people the opportunity to feel closer to God.”
The event will include light refreshments and an opportunity to meet Ulrich. For more information, call 732-842-5967 or 732-212-8226.
