Hundreds of new Catholics welcomed in Trenton Diocese

Each year on Holy Saturday during the Great Vigil of Easter, Catholic parishes throughout the world welcome new members who are brought into full communion with the Catholic Church through the Sacraments of Initiation.

Across the United States, tens of thousands of men, women and youths entered the Church, including more than 700 individuals in the four-county Diocese of Trenton. In all, about 60 of the nearly 200 Dioceses in the United States reported a number of catechumens and candidates entering the Church, according to the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops in Washington.

Catechumens, those who had never been baptized, received the Sacraments of Baptism, Confirmation and First Eucharist at the Easter Vigil.

Candidates, those who are already baptized in a Christian faith that is recognized by the Catholic Church, receive the Sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.
