Hospice workshop planned for caregivers

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

St. Barnabas Parish Respect Life Ministry, Bayville, will hold a Hospice/Caregivers Workshop for those interested in learning and understanding the issue involving a caregiver’s role as it pertains to hospice April 25 at 7 p.m. in Father Brennan Hall, 33 Woodland Avenue.

The workshop will provide the caregiver with the peace of mind knowing they have fulfilled every aspect to their loved one in their final earthly days.  Guest speakers Jore D’Eustachio, a registered nurse for more than 25 years and a hospice nurse for half of her career and Mercy Sister Eileen McDonnell, a registered nurse for 19 years who has worked in hospice for 16 of those years, both are associated with SolAmor Hospice and are very knowledgeable with the hospice process.  A question and answer session will follow the talk.

There is no cost for the workshop.  Refreshments will be available.  For information, call 732-269-2208, ext. 306.

Hospice care gives supportive care to people in the final phase of a terminal illness while focusing on comfort and quality of life. Advanced methods of pain control may be used to ensure the patient is made comfortable and free of pain. Hospice programs are usually home-based, but services can be provided away from home in nursing homes, private facilities or within hospitals.  Treating the whole person by providing support for the patient’s emotional, social, and spiritual needs along with medical symptoms is the philosophy of hospice.
