Summer is here, which means there are plenty of outdoor festivals, special retreats and arts and craft events going on in the Diocese of Trenton’s parishes. Whether you’re visiting a new church while on vacation or staying put in your own parish, here are just a few events happening in the coming week!
ARTS & CRAFTS FOR A CAUSE: Looking for a gift? Pick up some unique jewelry and crafts at St. Rose Parish, Belmar, as beads, bracelets, baskets and crafts handmade by Ugandan women will be on sale after all Masses on July 2 and 3. Everything you see will be one of a kind. The crafts are part of an income-generating project for Ugandan villages. The church is located at 603 Seventh Ave., Belmar.
BOOK WORMS: Grab a friend and head down to Sacred Heart Church, Bay Head, as the parish continues its summer twilight book study at 7 p.m., July 5. “Rediscover Jesus” by Matthew Kelly, a best-selling Catholic author and internationally acclaimed speaker, is a spiritual journey in encountering Jesus - the amazing friend who can help you answer life’s tough questions. No book purchase is necessary, and the event is free. The first study was June 27 and continues for the next five weeks. For more information, contact the parish office at 732-899-1398 or DawnRusinko @yahoo.com.
FUN IN THE SUN: Put it on the calendar! Mother of Mercy Parish, Asbury Park, is gearing up for its Multicultural Festival, July 7-10. Grab friends and family and enjoy music, food and games! The festival is at Bradley Park, Ocean & Fifth Avenues, Asbury Park. Shuttle service is available from Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. For more information, visit the Mother of Mercy Parish website.
DON’T FORGET: Those interested in signing up for the Family Healing Retreat at St. Rose of Lima Parish, Freehold, must register by July 5. The one-day conference will address healing negative family traits, illness and characteristics passed on from generation to generation. The conference is July 16 in the school gymnasium and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
