Holy Cross Sister Rosemary Melsopp, 87

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 20 in the Chapel at McAuley Health Care Center, Watchung, for Marianite of Holy Cross Sister Rosemary Melsopp, who died Jan. 16. She was 87.

Born in New York City, Sister Rosemary entered the Marianites of Holy Cross in New Orleans, La., Sept. 8, 1944, and made her final profession of vows in Our Lady of Princeton Convent Aug. 21, 1949.  She received a nursing degree from St. Catherine’s Hospital, in New York, and a bachelor of science degree in Rome, Italy. 

Sister Rosemary ministered in several hospitals in New York and New Jersey, including Helene Fuld, Trenton. She was also active in missionary activities in Norton, Va., East Pakistan, Bangladesh, Canada and Haiti. On Feb. 9, 1999 Sister Rosemary became a resident of McAuley Health Care Center, Watchung, after an accident in New York City on Sept. 27, 1998.

Sister Rosemary is survived by one brother, one sister and numerous nieces and nephews.

Burial will take place in Our Lady of Princeton Cemetery, Princeton.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mission Fund of the Marianites of Holy Cross, 1011 Gallier Street, New Orleans, LA 70117.
