Health workshop planned

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

The St. Joan of Arc Parish Health Ministry, Marlton, is on a mission to help people with ongoing health conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, depression, heart disease, anxiety, arthritis, fear, anger, frustration, and other issues.

To address the conditions, the health ministry is hosting “Take Control of Your Health”sessions on Thursday mornings through June 6 from 9:45 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. in the ARC Room of the rectory, 100 Willow Bend Road.

Betty Tourscher, health ministry coordinator, said that during the sessions, participants will find better ways of dealing with pain; improve nutrition; understand new treatment choices; and talk effectively with family, friends and professionals.

Tourscher noted that Stanford University developed the “Take Control of Your Health” program and found that it improved the physical and mental health of the participants and reduced hospital stays and emergency room visits. The workshop has been offered at hundreds of locations throughout the United States. Taught by specially trained volunteer leaders, some of whom have struggled themselves with health conditions, the program covers a new topic each week.

Tourscher emphasized that the program is open to anyone in the area. There is no fee to attend, but registration is required.
