Holy Cross Academy, Burlington County’s only Catholic high school, has received a $250,000 donation from the parent of three alumni.

Charles (Chic) Saile has committed to donating $25,000 per year for 10 years to the Delran school in the form of scholarship. The money will help assure that Catholic education remains a sustainable opportunity for all students in the county. With three children of his own, all of whom are Holy Cross graduates, Saile said he wants to provide more children in the region with the opportunity to study at the school.

“For 60 years, Holy Cross has provided opportunities to children of all beliefs to receive an excellent education that is rooted in the Catholic faith. It is my pleasure to help ensure that Holy Cross Academy will provide those opportunities for another 60 years,” said Saile, who is the father of graduates, Richard, Class of 1982, Lisa, Class of 1985 and Cheryl, Class of 1987. At the time when his children attended Holy Cross, the Saile family were members of Holy Name Parish, Delran.

Principal Dennis M. Guida said he is grateful for Saile’s financial generosity and expressed how the donation will reflect the school’s foundation in morals and academics for its students moving forward.

“It will help us to continue to provide financial assistance to those who want their children to attend a faith-based school that has been a cornerstone of Burlington County for six decades,” said Guida. “Mr. Saile is a devout Catholic, so he’s looking for the faith component – the faith-based education. He believes very strongly in that.”

JoAnn Tier, diocesan superintendent of Catholic schools, acknowledged Saile’s donation, saying, “The generosity of donors who provide financial support to our Catholic schools is met with heartfelt appreciation. Investing in our Catholic schools helps to make programs and initiatives available that prepare students for a future that is diverse and evolving. Support targeted for student tuition assistance continues to make Catholic school education available for all.”

Not only does Saile’s donation help current students receive a Catholic education, school chaplain Father Christopher Colavito believes the values students are learning through the academy can be carried beyond graduation.

“Our students are preparing to move on in life through college and raising a family, and we want to give them a good faith-based foundation – not strictly academic, but understanding the academics and integrating them with a faith so they’re best prepared to be young adults,” said Father Colavito.
