Good Counsel Home-South Jersey readies for first birthday; walk-a-thons planned

Good Counsel Home-South Jersey, which has as its mission to provide care to homeless women and their children, has two events planned in April and May.

On April 22, the organization will observe its first anniversary with a “Celebration of Life” party. The event will begin with a Mass celebrated at 10 a.m. in Holy Name Church, a worship site of Resurrection Parish, Delran. A party will follow in the parish center with the guests of honor being the 11 babies born to Good Counsel Home mothers in the past year.

Holy Name Church is located in 260 Conrow Rd., Delran.

Donations of baby items including formula, diapers, monetary gifts and gift cards will be accepted.

On May 19, five benefit walk-a-thons to support the mission of Good Counsel Home-South Jersey will take place simultaneously in the Dioceses of Trenton and Camden.

In the Diocese of Trenton, the walk-a-thons will be held in Memorial Park, Cinnaminson, and Medford Park, Medford.

In the Camden Diocese, the walk-a-thons will be held in Washington Lake Park, Washington Township; Wildwood Boardwalk, and Challenge Grove Park, Cherry Hill.

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the walk taking place from 9 a.m. to noon.

Located on the grounds of the former St. Casimir Parish, Riverside, Good Counsel-South Jersey operates under the direction of Good Counsel, Inc., a Catholic organization that for more than 25 years has been dedicated to the care of single, homeless pregnant mothers before, during and after the birth of their babies. In addition to food, clothing and shelter, Good Counsel offers single mothers education in various life skills’ elements including parenting, nutrition, communication and personal finances and budgeting. Other aspects of the program focus on spirituality, chastity, career education and counseling.
