Golf outing supports retired priests

Spirits were high despite rainy weather at the eighth annual Bishop John C. Reiss Memorial Golf Outing, held June 10 at Spring Lake Golf Club, Spring Lake Heights. Seventy-eight golfers, including 15 retired priests, competed in the tournament co-sponsored by the diocesan Department of Development and the Harris family. The men and women golfers competed on the links, then enjoyed a barbeque dinner and drinks as they raised approximately $155,000 for the Harris Family Charitable Trust, which benefits the aged, infirm and disabled priests of the Diocese of Trenton.
Winning prizes for closest to the hole went to Paul Slackta (12.6”) and Kelly Jarmon (15”), while Fred Price and Megan Lowenberg took longest drive honors. Three teams tied for first place overall: two from First Bank and one consisting of players Paul Slackta, Paul Moscarello and Steve Phillips.
The Harris Family Trust aids in the maintenance of Villa Vianney, the priests’ retirement residence in Lawrenceville, and the health care needs of the growing number of retiring priests. Mary Ellen Harris and several Harris family members represented the Trust.
