GCU's Week of Love to feature Mass with Bishop, Columbine principal talk

Bishop David M. O’Connell, C.M., will celebrate a Mass of the Holy Spirit at 2 p.m. Feb. 13 in the Dorothy Marron University Community Chapel at Georgian Court University, Lakewood – part of the school’s Week of Love observance planned for Feb. 8-15.
Dating to the 16th century Europe, the Mass has been a tradition at GCU for more than 20 years and is intended to bring the community together to prayerfully invoke the Holy Spirit for guidance and wisdom throughout the academic year. The Week of Love offers a variety of programs and seminars designed to explore many facets of love, including love of God, family, friends and self.
In addition to the Mass of the Holy Spirit, the programs that are open to the public include:
• Feb. 12, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., Ribbons of Love, Jeffries Hall Lobby. Participants will reflect on the many ways their lives have been richly blessed through a wide variety of loving relationships.
• Feb. 13, 6 p.m., Leadership Lessons from Columbine and Beyond, Casino. R.S.V.P. required at Georgian.edu/events. Frank DeAngelis, former principal of Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., will offer a straightforward account of the 1999 tragedy at the school, and how he and the community managed the aftermath and rebuilding.
• Feb. 21, 6 p.m., Play4Kay: GCU Women’s Basketball vs. Holy Family University, Wellness Center Arena. Grassroots fundraising initiative of the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Teams wear pink in honor of those battling cancer, including Coach Kay Yow, North Carolina State University basketball coach, whose cancer returned after a 17-year remission. *Note: Georgian Court University announced that the day of the Play4Kay event has been rescheduled from Feb. 13 to Feb. 21.
• Feb. 14, 8 a.m. and 12 p.m., Ash Wednesday Masses, Dorothy Marron University Community Chapel; 8 p.m. Service of the Word, Mercy Hall.
• Feb. 15, 3-8 p.m., Fashion and Faith Expo and Discussion, North Dining Room and McAuley Heritage Center. A wide variety of vendors will have clothing, jewelry and home décor inspired by multiple faith traditions on display. A panel will discuss the role and symbols and dress as expressions of faith in multiple traditions.
