Father Gerard J. McCarron, a priest of the Diocese of Trenton for 47 years, died Oct. 19 at age 78.

Funeral services will be held Oct. 23 with a Mass of Christian Burial being celebrated by Bishop John M. O’Connell, C.M., in Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel in Morris Hall, Lawrenceville, at 10 a.m.

Father McCarron was born in 1939 in Philadelphia, Pa, the son of Gertrude Kelleher and John F. McCarron. After graduation from Father Judge High School, he studied at La Salle University, Niagara University and Immaculate Conception Seminary, Darlington.

He was ordained to the priesthood in service to the Diocese of Trenton, June 6, 1970. In addition, Father McCarron received the degrees of master of theology and doctor of philosophy from Princeton Theological Seminary.

Father McCarron has served in several parishes of the Diocese of Trenton as parochial vicar, parish administrator and pastor. Prior to his retirement, Father McCarron served as pastor of St. William the Abbot Parish, Howell.

Father McCarron was survived by his sister, Barbara, and niece, Meghan.

Our Lady of the Rosary Chapel is located at 1 Bishops Drive, Lawrenceville.
