Funeral services scheduled for Deacon Philip J. Mylod

Deacon Philip J. Mylod, who had served as a deacon for the Diocese of Trenton, since 1987, died Aug. 5 at age 92.
Funeral services will begin with viewing hours to be held Aug. 8 from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 7 to 9 p.m. in St. Peter Church, Foreman Ave., Point Pleasant Beach. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celeb rated the following day, Aug. 9, at 9:30 a.m. in St. Peter Church.
Deacon Mylod was ordained a permanent deacon May 9, 1987 by Bishop John C. Reiss and served for 29 years as in Our Lady of Perpetual Help Parish, Normandy Beach, as well as in Jersey Shore Medical Center, and St. Elizabeth Parish, Avon. When he moved to Point Pleasant Beach, he joined St. Peter Parish and ministered to the residents of the Valentine House, a home for the mentally disabled. He graduated from Holy Cross College, Worcester, Mass. He was awarded the Silver Star and Purple Heart for serving in the Sixth Marine Division of Okinawa during World War II. He served in the State Attorney General’s office and the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office where he was acting prosecutor. He then entered into private law practice with his father, the Hon. Judge James P. Mylod, who opened the firm in 1904. He was rated a “preeminent lawyer” among his peers and was highly respected by his colleagues and clients. Until his death, he actively served “Of Counsel” to the third generation legal practice continued by his son, Philip G. Mylod.
Deacon Mylod was predeceased by his wife of 30 years, Anne Marie Mylod, and son James P. Mylod. He is survived by six children, Michelle (Donald) Marvel of Basking Ridge, Marion Audino of Grand Junction, Colo., Mark Mylod of Clinton, Michael G. Mylod of Freehold, Philip (Jennifer) Mylod of Toms River, and Anne Marie of Howell; 15 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Deacon Mylod remarried and is survived by his second wife, Marie Moore Mylod, to whom he was married for 30 years, and her three children, Jean Marie (Steve)Scott, Richard (Beth Ann) Moore and Steven (Pam) Moore, all of Point Pleasant; five grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Burial will be in Mount Olivet Cemetery, Bloomfield.
Memorial donations may be made to the Association of Marian Helpers in Divine Mercy, Stockbridge, Mass. 01263.
