Funeral services for Sister Bernadette McInnis

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated April 29 in Our Lady of Angels Convent Chapel, Aston, Pa., for Franciscan Sister Bernadette McInnis.

Sister Bernadette, who was formerly known as Sister St. Therese, died April 15 at age 76.

A professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 55 years, Sister Bernadette, entered the congregation in 1953 and professed her first vows in 1955. She earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa., and a master’s degree in English from The Catholic University of America, Washington.

Sister Bernadette ministered primarily in education. In the Diocese of Trenton, she taught in St. Raphael School, Hamilton, from 1955 to 1959; Immaculate Conception School, Trenton, from 1961 to 1964; Blessed Sacrament School, Trenton, from 1964 to 1969, and McCorristin Catholic High School, Hamilton, from 1969 to 1973. From 1986 to 1989, she served in St. Lawrence Rehabilitation Center, Lawrenceville, first as a student then as a coordinator for research and planning.

Other dioceses where Sister Bernadette had ministered included for 29 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia; for two years in the Diocese of Metuchen, and the Diocese of Pensacola-Tallahassee, Fla.

Sister Bernadette is survived by a niece and members of her Franciscan family. Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston, Pa. 19014.
