Funeral services for Michael Edgar Woodrow, father of priest


Father Brian Patrick Woodrow, pastor of St. John the Baptist Church, Allentown, was principal celebrant of a Solemn Requiem Mass for his father, Michael Edgar Woodrow, who died July 9 in his home in Hazlet. He was 77.

The Mass was held in St. John Church where Father Woodrow had been appointed pastor June 29.

Mr. Woodrow immigrated to the United States from Limerick, Ireland, in 1958. That same year he entered the U.S. Army where he completed Special Forces Ranger Training. He worked for more than 40 years for the U.S. Postal Service and in retirement enjoyed working a security detail for the PNC Arts Center, Holmdel.

Mr. Woodrow was predeceased by his parents, Sonny and Mary Woodrow and six siblings. In addition to Father Woodrow, Mr. Woodrow is survived by two daughters, Caroline of Wall Township and Kimberly of Union Beach; another son, Michael J. of Union Beach; Marie Woodrow of Union Beach; one brother, Reginald of Elizabeth, and two sisters, Theresa Nix and Ena Yelverton of Ireland.

Burial was in St. John Parish Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to St. John Parish, 1282 Yardville-Allentown Rd., Allentown, N.J. 08501.
