Funeral services for Filippini Sister Mary De Angelis

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Sept. 25 in St. Lucy Chapel of Villa Walsh, Morristown, for Filippini Sister Mary De Angelis who died Sept. 22 in St. Joseph Hall of Villa Walsh. She was 92. Celebrant of the Mass was Father John Rossi, director of Catholic Identity in Paul VI High School, Haddonfield.
Born in Baltimore, Sister Mary entered the Religious Teachers Filippini July 3, 1932. She received the religious habit Aug. 29, 1937, and her religious profession Sept. 1, 1940.
Sister Mary was awarded a bachelor of science degree in elementary education and a master’s degree in general professional education both from Seton Hall University, South Orange.
Sister Mary taught in elementary schools in the Dioceses of Trenton, Camden, Pittsburgh, Providence, and Scranton, and in the Archdiocese of Newark. In the Trenton Diocese, she taught in Most Holy Rosary School, Perth Amboy, (which is now in the Metuchen Diocese) from 1936-1938. She also served as principal in a number of schools in New Jersey and Philadelphia including Villa Victoria Academy, Ewing, from 1988-1991. Her last 10 years in the education ministry were teaching junior high students in Villa Walsh Academy, Morristown, from 1991-2001.
When Sister Mary retired from teaching in 2001, she assisted in the finance office and as a telephone operator in Villa Walsh. In 2010, she became a resident of St. Joseph Hall.
Sister Mary was predeceased by her parents, John De Angelis and Nazzarena (Carminucci); two sisters and three brothers. She is survived by one sister and one brother.
Burial was in Ave Maria Cemetery.
