Funeral for Poor Clare Sister Shirley R. Irasga

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated March 3 at 1 p.m. in the Monastery of St. Clare, Chesterfield, for Poor Clare Sister Shirley R. Irasga who died Feb. 26. She was 53.

Born in Canavid, East Samar, Philippines, Sister Shirley was a teacher in the Philippines before she came to live in the United States where she completed college and received a bachelor’s degree in English.

In 1981, Sister Shirley entered the Franciscan Apostolic Sisters in the Philippines. The following year she received her clothing and in 1984, she made her first profession and in 1990 was assigned to serve in Cromwell, Conn.

Sister Shirley entered the Poor Clare Nuns of Stamford, Conn., in 1995. She received clothing in 1996; made her first profession in 1999 and her solemn vows in 2002. In 2003, she was transferred to the Poor Clares of Chesterfield.

Sister Shirley was the daughter of the late Ishmael Amigo Irasga and Annania Edith Herrera Romano, and the half-sister of the late Richard and Edmund Suzara. She is survived by a sister, Zenaida Irasga, and halfbrothers, Lucio Suzara, Jr., Allan Suzara and Romulo Suzara.

Calling hours will be held in the monastery March 3 from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral Mass at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the monastery cemetery.
