More than 200 parishioners from St. Robert Bellarmine, Freehold, came out March 19 to pray the Rosary for Grace “Cookie” West, a young parishioner who is battling cancer.
According to fellow parishioner Nic Haros,” Grace is one of the most charming, vibrant, and courageous young ladies you might ever come across at any age,” and noted that in November, the 10-year-old was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, a cancer affecting the adrenal glands.
During the prayer service, the congregation prayed the Five Luminous Mysteries of the Rosary. West’s friends and junior friends participated by distributing new pairs of Rosary beads, a sheet with the Marian hymn, “Immaculate Mary,” and a copy of the prayers that are said in the recitation of the Rosary which was led by the parish Legion of Mary volunteers. The prayer service concluded with Msgr. Sam Sirianni, pastor, offering words of thanks to all who came out to support and pray with the West family.
West’s father, Don, noted that he and his wife, Sharon, have already conducted many other services and events to help raise awareness about their daughter’s ordeal, then added how appreciative the family is for the support they received from their parish community.
“First and foremost, ‘Cookie’ is most in need of prayers,” said Don West.
