Free facilitator training offered for bereavement support group and ministry leaders

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

The Roman Catholic Churches of Toms River will offer a free, two-day training program July 20 and Aug. 3 for anyone wishing to become a bereavement facilitator for support groups or ministries in Toms River’s four Catholic parishes: St. Joseph, St. Justin the Martyr, St. Luke and St. Maximilian Kolbe.

“Bereavement support groups are one way to find help from others who are going through the loss of a loved one,” said Joanne Hall, bereavement facilitator in St. Luke Parish. “The Roman Catholic Churches of Toms River all offer wonderful bereavement support groups, but additional trained facilitators are needed to allow us to continue hosting these vital groups.”

The training will be held on two Saturdays: July 20 and Aug. 3 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in St. Luke Parish, 1674 Old Freehold Road.  There is no charge for the participants and lunch will be provided.  Topics to be covered include how to help the grieving; the companioning model in bereavement support; grief and mourning; communication skills, and interactive skills training for faith-based ministry services and support groups. The training will be led by Mary Ann Collett, who is experienced in facilitating life coaching, pastoral care, bereavement support group retreats and workshops.

To register for the training, call the ministry hotline at (848) 226-6218. Pre-Registration is required and attendance at both sessions is requested.
