Franciscan Sister Maurice Huebsch, age 93

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 13 in the chapel of Stella Niagara Health Center, Stella Niagara, N.Y., for Franciscan Sister Maurice Huebsch, who died Jan. 10 at age 93.

The former Maryann Huebsch was born in 1917. She entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Penance and Christian Charity Sept. 8, 1934 and made her profession of vows Aug. 17, 1937. She was a graduate of Buffalo Academy of the Sacred Heart, Buffalo, N.Y., and Mount St. Joseph Teachers College, Buffalo, N.Y., where she earned a bachelor’s degree in education.

Sister Maurice’s teaching ministry was spent in schools in New Jersey, Ohio, West Virginia and New York. In the Trenton Diocese, she taught in St. Agnes School, Atlantic Highlands, from 1943 to 1944 and again from 1970 to 1972.

Sister Maurice retired in 1991 and had lived in Buffalo until 2009 when she became a resident of Stella Niagara Health Center.

Sister Maurice is survived by many nieces and nephews.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Retirement Fund, 4421 Lower River Rd., Stella Niagara, N.Y. 14144.
