Franciscan Sister Marie Margaret McFadden, 72

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Jan. 4 in St. Aloysius Church, Pottstown, Pa., for Franciscan Sister Marie Margaret McFadden who died Dec. 29 in Christiana Hospital, Newark, Del. She was 72.

A professed member of the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia for 51 years, Sister Marie Margaret entered the congregation in 1955. 

Sister Marie Margaret earned a bachelor’s degree in English from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa., and a master’s degree in religious education from St. Charles Borromeo Seminary, Overbrook, Pa. She ministered in both elementary and secondary education, including in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia, the Diocese of Trenton, and the Harrisburg Diocese.

In the Trenton Diocese, Sister Marie Margaret taught in McCorristin Catholic High School, Hamilton, (now Trenton Catholic Academy at McCorristin Campus) from 1971 to 1982.

She is survived by her biological sister, Franciscan Sister Ann McFadden; three brothers and sisters-in-law, and by her Franciscan family.

Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston, Pa.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation (designated for Assisi House), 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston, Pa. 19014.
