Franciscan Sister Dorothy Epple, served 17 years in Trenton Diocese

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated June 30 in Assisi House, Aston, Pa., for Franciscan Sister Dorothy Epple who died June 24. She was 86.

Born in Baltimore, she entered the Sister of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1945 and professed her first vows in 1948. She earned a bachelor of science degree in secondary education and a master of science degree in biology, both from Villanova University.

In her 66 years of religious life, Sister Dorothy served in education on both the elementary and secondary levels, in congregational ministry and in parish ministry. In the Trenton Diocese, she taught in Holy Angels School, Hamilton, from 1949-1953; St. Anthony School, Hamilton, from 1953-`1955, and McCorristin Catholic High School, Hamilton, from 1972-1978. From 1987-1992, she served in Corpus Christi Convent, Willingboro, where she coordinated a group for retired and active retired sisters.

Her other years of ministry included 10 years in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia; 30 years in the Diocese of Harrisburg, Pa.; six years in the Archdiocese of Baltimore, and two years in the Wilmington Diocese.

Sister Dorothy is survived by a sister-in-law, nieces, a nephews and her Franciscan family. Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston, Pa.

Memorial donations may be made to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston, Pa., 19014.
