Franciscan Sister Adele Siwak, served in Diocese for six years

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Nov. 12 in Assisi House, Aston, Pa., for Franciscan Sister Adele Siwak who died Nov. 6 at age 88.

Born in Baltimore, Sister Adele (formerly Sister Francis Josephine) entered the Sisters of St. Francis of Philadelphia in 1944 and professed her first vows in 1947. She earned a bachelor of science degree in elementary education from Villanova University, Villanova, Pa., and a master of arts degree in education from Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore.

Ministering primarily in education on both elementary and secondary levels, Sister Adele served in the Archdiocese of Baltimore for 35 years and the Archdiocese of Philadelphia for 25 years. In the six years she was appointed to the Diocese of Trenton, she taught in Holy Angels School, Hamilton, from 1953-1954; St. Michael Orphanage, Hopewell, and St. Raphael School, Hamilton, from 1954-1955; Corpus Christi School, Willingboro, from 1969-1972, and St. Leo the Great School, Lincroft, from 1972-1973.

Sister Adele is survived by a nephew, cousins and by her Franciscan family.

Burial was in Our Lady of Angels Cemetery, Aston.

Memorial contributions may be sent to the Sisters of St. Francis Foundation, 609 S. Convent Rd., Aston, Pa. 19014.
