Four teachers were bid farewell as they prepare to retire after more than a century of collective Catholic education at St. James School, Red Bank.

Mrs. Susan Walsh was part of the faculty for 11 years, teaching math, algebra and religion as well as serving as a homeroom teacher. She was actively involved in the performing arts drama program, and was credited as providing constant encouragement for students to explore and develop their potential.

Mrs. Marsha Walsh taught for 28 years, first as a kindergarten teacher and later as a first grade and resource teacher. For ten years, she served as coordinator of the extended day program, and has been credited with exercising patience in guiding young students on their educational journey.

Mr. Neil Fitzpatrick, part of the St. James School community for 31 years, taught music to students from preschool to eighth grade. He played the piano or organ for religious services and Christmas shows, and was moderator of the school’s Choral Club. He is remembered in part for his playing the piano as his students perform a moving rendition of “God Bless America.”

Mrs. Ann Fitzgerald taught for 38 years, serving in grades 5-8 and as an algebra teacher. She also taught Math Lab and High School Prep courses and was technology coordinator for the school. She is known for her sense of humor, and the stories she could tell of some of her former students.
