'Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship'

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

Our Diocese Tod@y

Catholic voters have both a right and responsibility to exercise faithful citizenship when considering the issues and candidates they will support in an election. A careful study of the Church’s official teachings helps to instruct and inform our consciences so that our decisions and judgments reflect what the Church actually teaches and believes about the truths revealed to us by God.

I encourage all Catholics in the Diocese of Trenton to read the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ document, “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship” in its entirety.  There, the USCCB provides a carefully prepared presentation of the Church’s official teachings and offers Catholics some “good conscience” guidelines and advice for evaluating partisan political positions and candidates for elected office. To learn more, and to access the full document, go to www.dioceseoftrenton.org/faithful-citizenship.
