More than 200 students from around the state vied for top honors in the 43rd annual CBA Brother Christian Jones Eighth Grade Mathematics Contest held Oct. 18 in Christian Brothers Academy, Lincroft. The competition, named for the long-time head of the CBA mathematics department, tasked teams of eight students from each of 14 private and 15 public school teams to solve 20 multiple-choice pre-algebraic problems in an hour’s time. In the private school division, St. Benedict School, Holmdel, ranked fourth followed by Holy Cross School, Rumson. Individual honors went to St. Benedict’s Adrian Thamburaj who scored ninth overall. Other Catholic school competitors from the Diocese included St. Aloysius, Jackson; St. Catharine, Spring Lake, St. Dominic, Brick; St. Jerome, West Long Branch; St. Joseph, Toms River; St. Leo the Great, Lincroft; St. Mary, Middletown, and St. Veronica, Howell.
