Flores de Mayo and Santacruzan celebration planned

July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.

St. Raphael-Holy Angels Parish, Hamilton, will hold its seventh annual celebration of Flores de Mayo and Santacruzan in honor of the Blessed Virgin Mary sponsored by its Filipino community from 1:30 to 4 p.m. May 19 at 3500 South Broad St.

Flores de Mayo is a tradition known throughout the Philippines as a daily offering of flowers to Mary, the mother of Jesus, and is observed throughout the month of May. The celebration culminates with Santacruzan, the traditional procession and re-enactment that commemorates the finding of the True Cross, which was found by Saint Helena, the mother of the Roman Emperor Constantine the Great, during a pilgrimage to Jerusalem.

The day will consist of Mass at 1:30 p.m., a procession at 3 p.m., followed by a dinner dance reception and presentation of the Sagalas, those participating in the procession in the parish center.

Tickets are $30 per person; children age 11 and younger are free. For tickets, contact Jay Janolo at 609-540-0992; Tony Rejano at 732-239-5836; Norma McCoy at 609-238-9362 or Mila Gutierrez at 609-529-6040.
