Funeral services were held Oct. 3 in Villa Walsh, Morristown, for Religious Teachers Filippini Sister Mary Garozzo, who served as a teacher in St. James School, Trenton, from 1949 to 1955. Sister Mary died in St. Joseph Hall, Villa Walsh, Morristown, Sept. 30. She was 89.

Born in Swedesboro in 1925, Sister Mary entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1945, received her habit in 1946 and made her religious profession in 1949. She was awarded a bachelor degree in elementary education from Seton Hall University, South Orange.

In addition to St. James School, Trenton, Sister Mary taught in various schools in the Archdiocese of Newark. She was the superior and pastoral minister in Watkins Glen, New York, N.Y., from 1974 to 1990, and served in a number of capacities at Villa Walsh for a total of 29 years. Sister Mary entered St. Joseph Hall in 2009.

She is survived by two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Sister Mary will be accepted to the St. Joseph Hall Infirmary, c/o Sister Ascenza Tizzano, MPF, Provincial Superior, Villa Walsh, 455 Western Avenue, Morristown, N.J. 07960-4928.
