Filippini Sister Adalgisa Manone, 98, dedicated life to Catholic education

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated May 17 in St. Lucy Filippini Chapel at Villa Walsh, Morristown, for Filippini Sister Adalgisa Manone who died May 8 in St. Joseph Hall Infirmary. She was 98.
Born in Senigailia, Italy, Sister Adalgisa entered the Religious Teachers Filippini in 1932. She received the habit in 1933, and made her religious profession in 1937.
She was awarded a bachelor of arts degree in history/English from Georgian Court College, Lakewood, and a master of arts degree in social studies/geography and history from Columbia University, N.Y. She also held a principal’s certificate from the State of New Jersey.
Throughout her years of ministry from 1933 to 1980, Sister Adalgisa taught seventh and eighth graders in St. Joachim and St. James Schools, both in Trenton, as well as in other schools in Newark, Bayonne, Jersey City, Peapack, East Orange, Nutley and Dumnore, Pa. In 1980, she continued to minister in St. Francis Xavier, Newark, on a part-time basis until she retired to St. Joseph Hall at Villa Walsh in 2003.
Sister Adalgisa is predeceased by her parents, Louis and Frances Tarsi Manone, and brother, Anthony “Nello” Manone and his wife, Elizabeth.
She is survived by two brothers, Dell “Bim” and his wife, Rose, Manone; Dr. Carl J. and his wife, Darunee; nieces and nephews.
