Farmingdale parish to hold parish mission

Franciscan Father Kevin Cronin from Holy Name Province’s Ministry of the Word will conduct a parish mission Nov. 9-11 in St. Catherine of Siena Parish, Farmingdale.
Father Cronin will introduce the mission which has as its theme Loving God Gladly at all weekend Masses Nov. 8-9.
During the mission days, Mass will be celebrated each morning at 9 a.m. in St. Catherine Chapel, 1 West Main St. Each evening will feature a service to be held at 7:30 in the church and parish center at 31 Asbury Rd.
Monday’s theme is God’s Love; Tuesday’s topic is God’s Mercy, and Wednesday’s theme is God’s Healing.
Father Cronin was born in the Bronx, N.Y., and raised in North Floral Park, Queens, on Long Island. He holds a bachelor of arts degree in philosophy from The Catholic University of America, Washington, and a master of arts degree in theology from the Washington Theological Union.
Ordained by Cardinal Joseph Bernardin, Father Cronin spent his first eight years as a priest in St. Anthony Shrine, Boston where he founded the Young Catholics young adult group.
Father Cronin was then appointed a vocation director for the Friars Minor of Holy Name Province for the East Coast of the U.S.A., where for four years he lived in his home town parish of birth, Holy Cross in the Bronx.
During a 1987 sabbatical, he explored the effects of media in our culture studying in Berkley, Calif. He also had a third world experience in Jamaica, and also spent three months in solitude as a hermit.
As member of the pastoral team in St. Mary Parish, Pompton Lakes, for six years, he coordinated the sacramental ministry He Kenosis: Emptying Self and the Path of Christian Service, where he shares an early time in his life when he served in St. Francis Parish in New York City. He also inspired and edited a book written by 15 friars called “A Friar’s Joy” in which friars share stories from their lives reflecting their joy of being Franciscan friars at the end of the second millenium.
