Explanation of Awards:

Boy Scouting Youth awards:

Ad Altare Dei (To the Altar of God): This program, organized in chapters based on the seven Sacraments, enables Catholic scouts to develop a fully Christian way of life in the faith community, and understand what it means to be a follower and disciple of Christ.

Pope Pius XII: Explores value and validity of different life choices (single, married, religious, ordained) and ministries within the church as calls from God.

Boy Scouting Adult awards:

CHRIST THE KING AWARD: Unique to the Diocese of Trenton, this award recognizing a person’s outstanding contribution to the spiritual development of Catholic youth who are involved in programs of the Boy Scouts of America.

FLEUR DE LIS EMBLEM: Presented to women registered in the Cub Scout program, this award recognizes outstanding service to the spiritual development of Catholic Cub Scouts over a two-year period.

BRONZE PELICAN EMBLEM: Adults who have given five years or more of outstanding service in the spiritual development of Catholic youth in Scouting, and who have received the Christ the King or Fleur de Lis emblem, are eligible.

SAINT GEORGE EMBLEM: A National-level recognition, presented to a registered Scout who has given five years or more of outstanding service in spiritual development of Catholic youth in Scouting, received the Bronze Pelican emblem, and has served actively in Church and community.

Girl Scouting Youth awards:

I Live My Faith: Enables Girl Scouts ages 9 – 11 to reflect on religion and God’s place in their daily lives in an action-oriented way.

MARIAN MEDAL: A reminder of their commitment to faith, service and responsible community participation, this award for Girl Scouts ages 12 – 15 follows Mary’s journey as a young teenager to become the Mother of God.

SPIRIT ALIVE: Intended for Girl Scouts in senior high school, this program analyses the movement of the Holy Spirit within their lives and calls for a greater participation in the ministry of the church.

AFFIRMATION MEDAL: This medal is the Senior Girls Scouts’ equivalent of the Pope Pius XII medal for Boy Scouts.

Girl Scouting Adult awards:

ORDER OF SAINT CATHERINE OF SIENA: This award is presented to an adult who has given outstanding service in the spiritual development of Catholic Girl Scouts, and who maintains positive relations between the parish and the Girl Scout Council.

SAINT ELIZABETH ANN SETON AWARD: Award winners have served as Advisors or Co-coordinators in the Diocesan Religious Emblems Programs, or as Resource Adults for youth, for at least three years.

SAINT ANNE AWARD: This recognition may be presented to a practicing Catholic adult active in a Girl Scout Council in the Diocese of Trenton, who has served parish and/or community as a Girl Scout adult for at least ten years and who has made significant contributions to the Emblems Programs for youth for at least five years.

Girl and Boy Scouting Youth and Adult Awards:

ST. TARCISIUS AWARD: This award, which can be earned by youth and adults involved in any Boy or Girl Catholic scouting program, aims to make the church more important and relevant to young adults through the intercession of St. Tarcisius, the young-adult patron saint of first communicants.

HELPING HANDS - SERVICE PROJECT AWARD: This award, unique to the Diocese of Trenton, can be earned by Boy or Girl Scouts or their adult leaders involved in Scouting within the four counties of the diocese. It is given in recognition of a completed service project for a church or church organization. Sample service projects include assistance at a soup kitchen, Vacation Bible School, or CCD program; entertaining at a nursing home, cleaning up after a church program, or creating something for the ill. The Helping Hands awards are distributed at separate church celebrations/Masses.
