Events planned in San Alfonso Retreat House
July 29, 2019 at 12:37 p.m.
Redemptorist Father James Wallace, director of San Alfonso Retreat House, West End, announced the schedule for the new year and the theme for preached retreats: “Walking In Darkness/Living In the Light.”
The retreat team includes Redemptorist Fathers Wallace, John McGowan, Kevin O’Neil, John Collins and Sister of St. Joseph Gerrie Muller.
The theme for this year recognizes that experiences of light and darkness mark every life, inviting people to enter more fully in to the mystery of God and a deeper appreciation of the meaning in their lives. Retreat will encourage greater reflection of the experiences in the light of faith, focusing on Jesus Christ as the Light of the World.
The 2017 schedule includes weekend retreats for men and women, married couples, recovery weekends, clergy retreats, as well as retreats for deacons, religious and silent directed retreats. In addition to the scheduled weekend and week-long retreats, San Alfonso offers days and evenings of recollection for adults, school faculties, young people, men and women in recovery and parish societies and councils. Individuals are also welcome for private retreats.
There are also several special programs such as the National Film Retreat in June and the Clergy Institute in July, with renowned speakers, including Father Edward Foley, the Duns Scotus Professor of Spirituality and ordinary Professor of Liturgy and Music at Catholic Theological Union, Chicago. He is also a member of the Province of St. Joseph of the Capuchin Order. His topic will be A Renewed Sacramental Theology. Other presenters include Sister Dianne Bergant, a member of the Congregation of Sisters of St. Agnes in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin and the Carroll Stuhlmueller, C.P., Distinguished Professor Emerita of Old Testament Studies at Catholic Theological Union, who will present The Psalms in Christian Life and Ministry. Marist Brother Donald Bisson, a spiritual director and is widely recognized as a specialist in the training, formation and supervision of spiritual directors, will focus on the topic on Men and Transformative Spirituality.
Other upcoming events include a Valentine’s Day evening for couples Feb. 14 and a Celtic Spirituality event March 16.
