Two upcoming events in the Diocese will address a variety of end-of-life issues, ranging from funeral rites to physician-assisted suicide, in light of Catholic teaching.
First, the Diocesan Office of Worship and Department of Pastoral Care will host “Faith, Hope and Love at Life’s End: A Catholic Perspective on End-of-Life” Nov. 20 from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in St. Robert Bellarmine Church, Freehold.
Then, on Dec. 7, in collaboration with St. Rose Parish, Belmar, the Diocesan Respect Life Ministry of the Department of Pastoral Care will host “Catholic Teaching on End-of-Life Issues and Physician-Assisted Suicide” from 1-3 p.m. in St. Rose Church. Speakers will be Sister of Charity Patricia Codey, president of the Catholic Healthcare Partnership of New Jersey; along with Deacon Patrick Brannigan, of St. James Parish, Pennington, executive director and spokesperson on public policy matters for the New Jersey Catholic Conference. The event in Freehold will offer a deeper understanding on similar family and medical matters. It will feature talks by Rev. Mr. James Grogan, transitional deacon in St. Robert Bellarmine Parish; Father Michael Manning, pastor of Holy Cross Parish, Rumson, who is also a medical doctor; Father Anthony Sirianni, pastor of St. Helena Parish, Edison; and Msgr.
