End of an Era After 137 years, Sisters of Mercy bid farewell to beloved parish

St. Paul Parish, Princeton, hosted more than 20 Sisters of Mercy for its celebratory 11:30 Mass of Thanksgiving and Farewell on May 22, honoring the sisters for their 137-year ministry in the church and St. Paul’s School.

All the retired sisters who served at in the parish over the years were invited from their motherhouse in Watchung to attend the Mass and reception following, which marked the end of an era for the parish and school community: the remaining sisters at St. Paul’s – Sister Terena Gentili, Sister Jane Higgins and Sister Martha Harcar – will retire in June, leaving the parish convent uninhabited for the first time since the 1880s.
