Members of St. Gregory the Great Parish remembered their less fortunate neighbors this holiday season by conducting their annual “Warm Hands, Warm Hearts” donation.

New and gently used winter outerwear was collected this fall and donated Nov. 5 to the HomeFront agency, a Lawrence Township-based entity which aids homeless families in Mercer County.

The parish’s benevolence is evident by the ever-growing collection, stated Dorothy Henneberry, chairman of social concerns for the Hamilton Square parish. “Last year, we had about 300 donated items, but this year it doubled.

It gets better every year.” This fall’s clothing drive resulted in a donation of 519 men’s, women’s and children’s hats, gloves and scarves; 28 pairs of men’s socks, and five gently used coats.

The annual project involves multiple St. Gregory the Great Parish organizations and individuals. In addition to the items collected in the church, members of the Altar Rosary Ministry crocheted more than 120 hats, gloves and scarves for the donation. St.

Gregory Council, Knights of Columbus, and others delivered the clothing to HomeFront with a message attached to each item: a gift tag bearing the message “From your friends at St. Gregory the Great; you are in our prayers.”

“I wanted to show we cared,” said Henneberry, “not only for [the recipients] to be warm, but that they would be in our prayers.”
