Dominican preacher to offer St. Paul Parish renewal

Order of Preachers, Dominicans Father Hugh Dominic Burns will conduct a parish mission in St. Paul Church, 214 Nassau Street, Princeton. Entitled “Get Real”, Father Burns will be giving his talks beginning at 7:30pm Monday, Oct. 19 through Thursday, Oct. 22.  He will also be celebrating and preaching the weekday Mass Monday through Thursday at 12:10pm. 

Father Burns is known for his use of humor and laughter in his preaching as a way to reach out to people. At the heart of his talks, however, is a practical and contemporary message based on Scripture and Church teaching. Father Burns aims to "set hearts on fire for God" and directs his presentations to people of all ages, from teens to seniors.

The themes of Father Burns' talks during the week will be: “Don’t Worry Be Happy: Christian Joy," Oct. 19; “What Are You Afraid Of?” Dealing with Life’s Fears, Oct. 20, 12:10 p.m.; “See It Big – Keep It Simple: Poor in Spirit with Peace of Mind," Oct. 20, 7:30 p.m.; “Cool Off! Coping With Anger," Oct. 21, 12:10 p.m.; “Brought Near: A Sense of Belonging in the Church," Oct. 21, 7:30 p.m.; “Lighten Up: A Christian Sense of Humor," Oct. 22, 12:10 p.m.; and “Blessed Among Women: Mary Tender and Tough," Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m.

Father Burns has preached widely throughout the United States, the Caribbean and Latin America in both English and Spanish.  His career has taken him from politics to the priesthood in the Order of Preachers, Dominicans.  He has a degree in political science from Boston College and a master’s and license in sacred theology in ethics from the Dominican House of Studies in Washington, D.C.
